GENERATION OF ELECTRICITY
Fossil fuels like coal, natural gas and petroleum; they are burned and used to evaporate large amounts of water to create high pressure steam that powers a steam turbine, transforming the extracted thermal energy into mechanical work. By connecting a mechanical generator to the turbine's drive shaft, the mechanical work can be converted into electric energy.
WHY NEED TO SAVE ELECTRICITY (ENERGY)
1. To Save Scarce Resources
Electricity is mostly produced by using the scarce resources such as coal, natural gas & petroleum which can cause depletion of these resources. By saving electricity we can contribute to our society and the earth through decrease depletion of these resources.
2. Supports Development
Lesser electricity consumption means more energy available for development. More money with people and government can result in creating infrastructure development, creating jobs etc.
3. Saves Money
Using energy efficient appliances can save up to 30% on electricity bills.
4. Improves Economy
India imports 25% of its energy needs. Reduced energy consumption will decrease imports which will result in more money with the country.
5. Saves Environment
0.8 Kg CO2 released to produce 1 unit of electricity. 12kg CO2 absorbed by a tree in one year.
